The Kingfisher

King of the birds, this art club piece uses the most stunning colours which look amazing!

I am really pleased with how he came together in the end. The feathers were definitely a challenge, but the colours are lush, and getting those deep shadows in really made them pop! It was fantastic to use some colours here that I simply wouldn’t even get out of the box for my regular pet portraits.

The original was drawn on Polydraw drafting film. The ref was from Pexels, selected for an Art Club draw-along in the Bonny Snowdon Academy. I love these live draw-along sessions because they always push me to draw subjects I wouldn’t necessarily choose myself!
